Roger and Bernadyne Adams have been heavily involved with Hemet, the San Jacinto Valley, and the Inland Empire as a whole since moving into the valley in 1972. The couple relocated from Santa Ana when Roger was offered a teaching position at Mt. San Jacinto Junior College. He was eager to help others with the photographic trade that he had fallen in love with, although it was a hard decision for the couple to leave behind their established business, Adams Photos, which had been serving Santa Ana since 1962.

By 1975, Roger's time teaching at the college had introduced him to many young, aspiring photographers, eager and willing to work in the field. Both Roger and Bernadyne recognized this opportunity to provide quality family and wedding portraiture for their community, and so, armed with their vast knowledge and previous business experience, they opened a small studio from their home: The House of Portraits was born.

During the first years, the business' main focus was weddings, however, with the quality and care delivered in each print, the portraiture department soon grew exponentially by word of mouth alone. By 1977, a staff member at a local church approached the couple regarding the photography for the church's Preschool Program. Taking a turn the Adams never anticipated, The House of Portraits began shooting for organized schools, sports leagues, as well as company and public events.

As the business quickly grew, the Adams were forced to make decisions as to how Roger would balance his time between teaching and his business. He was able to stay at the Junior College full time, as well as serve as head photographer for The House of Portraits, although this was only a small portion of the business, as Bernadyne focused on management and customer satisfaction. She was the face of the business, and strived that every last customer left their studio feeling satisfied and confident in their decision to visit The House of Portraits. It was the combination of Roger's technical expertise, and Bernadyne's dedication and customer commitment which turned this into a business that could positively impact the community for decades to come.

By 1987 The House of Portraits had outgrown its in-home location, and the staff of seven, mainly composed of family members, was just not enough to supply the increasing demand of the booming community. Roger and Bernadyne moved the studio into a commercial location, where business increased drastically. Just three short years later, by 1990, the company was already in need of twice the studio space, and held a staff of 20 employees on top of the Adams' immediate family and in-laws. By that time, The House of Portraits was photographing over 50,000 clients per year, and there was no denying the positive impact that the studio had had on the San Jacinto Valley, providing quality photography and portraiture at an affordable, reasonable price.

After 26 years of service to the Inland Empire through The House of Portraits, Roger and Bernadyne handed the business over to their son and daughter-in-law in February, 2001. Greg and Lynn Adams had over a decade of experience with the studio, and knew the ins and outs of both the technical/artistic side of the trade, as well as the managerial/business side. Greg and Lynn launched the studio into the 21st century with the implementation of digital technology-- a decision which has given their clientele benefits such as instant previews, digital manipulation, online ordering, and more.

With the customer base growing each year, and the profile of the business constantly expanding, Greg and Lynn Adams are continuing right where Roger and Bernadyne left off over a quarter century ago, bringing quality, affordable photography to as many people as possible. Now serving schools, sports leagues, and families from Los Angeles to San Diego, The House of Portraits is a true staple throughout the Inland Empire, as well as Southern California as a whole.

"Our goal is to provide the best quality portraits at an affordable price. Our customers are always our first priority because, after all, we are the only business that provides you with a product that you will never throw away or replace."

Greg Adams, Owner
